2 cups For a richer dip, replace ½ cup of the sour cream with ½ cup mayonnaise.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Finely grated zest of 1 lemon
  • (3 to 4 green onions, thinly sliced, or 2 tablespoons minced chives)
  • (1 tablespoon minced parsley, dill, thyme, oregano, or other fresh herbs)
  • (1 tablespoon prepared horseradish)
  • 1
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 1 pound yellow, red, white, or sweet onions, halved and thinly sliced or cut into ½-inch or larger dice
    • Salt and black pepper
    Sub-recipe steps
    1. Heat in a large skillet over medium-high heat: 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    2. Add and cook, stirring frequently, until lightly browned around the edges, 10 to 15 minutes: 1 pound yellow, red, white, or sweet onions, halved and thinly sliced or cut into ½-inch or larger dice
    3. Season well with: Salt and black pepper
  • (1 cup chopped cooked or drained canned clams)
  • (8 ounces cooked shrimp, chopped)

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

    Mix well in a large bowl: 2 cups sour cream; 1 tablespoon soy sauce or 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce; 1 teaspoon black pepper; 2 garlic cloves, minced; ½ teaspoon salt; Finely grated zest of 1 lemon

  2. Step 2.

    If desired, add one or more of the following: (3 to 4 green onions, thinly sliced, or 2 tablespoons minced chives); (1 tablespoon minced parsley, dill, thyme, oregano, or other fresh herbs); (1 tablespoon prepared horseradish); (½ cup chopped Sautéed Onions or Caramelized Onions); (1 cup chopped cooked or drained canned clams); (8 ounces cooked shrimp, chopped)

  3. Step 3.

    Chill for 1 hour before serving.
