Collect

Gather these ingredients — no prep needed yet.

  • 14.8 ml butter
  • 394 ml water
  • 237 ml long grain rice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 14.8 ml soy sauce
  • 14.8 ml oriental sesame oil

Prepare

  • 44.4 ml oil, divided
  • 113 g cubed ham, cooked
  • Chop 1 small chopped onion

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

In a medium saucepan, bring 1 tablespoon butter and 1 2/3 cups water to a boil over high heat. Stir in 1 cup long grain rice. Reduce heat to medium-low, partially cover the pan, and simmer until most of the liquid is absorbed, about 5 minutes.

  2. Step 2.

Stir the rice with a fork. Reduce heat to low, cover, and continue cooking until tender, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and keep covered.

  3. Step 3.

While the rice cooks, in a large skillet heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium-high heat, coating the pan. In a small bowl, beat 2 large eggs. Add the eggs to the skillet and fry until set, turning once. Transfer the cooked egg to a plate and cut into 1/2-inch by 2-inch strips; set aside.

  4. Step 4.

In the same skillet, heat another tablespoon oil over medium-high heat. Add 4 ounces cubed cooked ham and cook until lightly browned, about 2-3 minutes. Transfer the ham to the plate with the eggs and set aside.

  5. Step 5.

In the same skillet, add the final tablespoon oil. Add 1 small chopped onion and stir-fry for 1 minute. Stir in peas (amount not specified, use about 1/2 cup), cover, and cook until tender, 2-3 minutes.

  6. Step 6.

Gently stir in the cooked rice, egg strips, ham, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon oriental sesame oil. Cook until heated through, about 2-3 minutes. Serve immediately.
